1. What can you expect from the initial consultation?

Your first visit with either Dr. Jay Barnett or Dr. Channing Barnett will be a comprehensive consultation on any medical and/or cosmetic issues you would like to discuss with the doctor. Multiple conditions and/or treatments may be discussed and reviewed. This initial consultation should also include a thorough full body skin exam to check for skin cancer.

We want the consultation to be totally informative and complete. Enough time is always provided to make you feel comfortable and to make sure you understand all aspects of what is being discussed, examined, and possibly treated.

2. Can you have a treatment on the same day as the consultation?

Most of our treatments and minor procedures can be performed immediately following (on the same day as) your consultation. A few procedures require an appointment separate from the consultation.

3. Will the consultation fee be waived if a treatment is done on the same day?

In the case of cosmetic concerns, if you choose to have a treatment on the same day of the consultation, the consultation fee will be waived unless several other concerns are discussed at length. If you choose to come back for your first treatment, there will be no additional consultation fee unless other areas of concern are extensively discussed at that next appointment.

4. Can I book my appointment online?

Yes. You can book directly through our website or through ZocDoc. Appointments can also be made by calling our office at 212-734-2800.

5. Will I be seen by one of the dermatologists at all of my visits?

All patients are seen by either Dr. Jay Barnett or Dr. Channing Barnett at all visits. Additionally, they perform all treatments and procedures on all patients except for certain facial or laser treatments (SilkPeel, Isolaz, Laser Hair Removal) on already established patients. Even in the case of previously mentioned facial treatments, either physician is always on site and present in the treatment room for part of, if not all of the treatment session.

6. How can payments be made at each visit?

We accept most major credit cards, cash or checks. We do not participate with payment plans such as CareCredit. All payments (excluding insurance related payments) are to be paid at the time of the appointment.

7. Do you accept insurance for medical concerns?

Dr. Channing Barnett participates with Aetna, Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield and United Healthcare/Oxford Freedom. We advise that you call your insurance company prior to your visit to verify your coverage. You can find the phone number on the back of your insurance card and you can find the copay on the front of your insurance card. For patients with other insurances, in the case of medically-approved treatments, you will be provided with an insurance claim that can be submitted to your insurance company for reimbursement. Cosmetic procedures and treatments are not usually covered by insurance.

8. Do you have office hours on weeknights or weekends?

Yes. We offer late appointments on Thursday evenings and on the first and third Saturday of every month.
